dumb question
Mar. 10th, 2003 09:41 pmhow do you measure clothes to get waist and hip sizes? just wrap a tape measure around the inside? I've never found those stretched-flat measurements too useful, but I don't know the official method of taking measurements. Lots of ebayers asking for more specifics about my auctions, and I want to make sure I give them good information ...

Date: 2003-03-10 09:13 pm (UTC)for the waist pin one edge of the tape (starting with 1inch) somewhere at the waist line of the pants (the waistline is the area you would wear a belt with or button together etc..) wrap the tape measurer around the waist in an even line until you reach the part you pinned. Because clothing is flexable I usually add 1" to the final measurement unless it's something i've sewn myself.
for hip you would do the same at the widest point of the hip area which is usually about 3" from the waist.
hope that helps

Date: 2003-03-11 05:38 pm (UTC)one question about the right way to do hip measurements - is it supposed to be the part that looks the widest from the _front_ (side-to-side hip width), or is it the place with the largest circumference?
