... Charles de Lint book should I read first?

... Natacha Atlas cd should I invest in first?

... DJ Cam cd should I get if I already have Loa Project V. II?

Hmm... good question. I'd probably recommend either the first set of Newford short stories, Dreams Underfoot, or Memory and Dream. Moonheart's also a good early book of his, as is Jack the Giant Killer, both of which are based in Ottawa, rather than Newford.

I agree -- an anthology like "Dreams Underfoot" is the way to go.

"Jack the Giant Killer" was a good read, although it's more rollickin' and far less introspective than his later stuff, and so not the best introduction to what he writes. (Although I think I like it better, because the introspection gets to be overbearing sometimes.)

"The Remix Collection" from 2000 is a pretty good place to start--she's remixed by Banco de Gaia and Talvin Singh among others. It can be a good sort of gateway album. Also her most recent album Ayeshteni is quite excellent. And her first album, Diaspora, is very classic--the song Leysh Nat'arak which can be heard sometimes at local goth clubs is on Diaspora.

I'd start with his first novel,Riddle of the Wren (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0142302236/qid=1043710859/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_3/103-4478889-0889422?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), as everything he writes is delightful.

Remix Collection (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004XSN0/qid=1043710588/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/103-4478889-0889422?v=glance&s=music). I lent this to two people, and haven't gotten either copy back. Arg.

Mad Blunted Jazz (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000005E0X/qid=1043711472/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-4478889-0889422?v=glance&s=music) is the only one of his I own. The title track is a perfect groove.
