overheard on the bus this evening

Three white twentysomethings behind me discuss teaching a young niece about the true nature of The Lion King, the alternative pedagogical frames - Marxist, feminist - into which one could fit the film ("film" not "movie" by the way), and the deeply racist undercurrents throughout, what with all those evil black hyenas.

Two black fortysomethings sitting in front of me, who don't appear to be together, exchange deeply amused glances.

heh, last time I watched Cheech and Chong, or Nash Bridges for that matter, I didn't notice Ceech Marin was black... maybe I need PC Goggles instead of Postals. Besides, I thought the way to view the Lion King was as a high-budget, Disney rip-off of Kimba the White Lion, but then I know a lot of Anime freaks.
