overheard on the bus this evening

Three white twentysomethings behind me discuss teaching a young niece about the true nature of The Lion King, the alternative pedagogical frames - Marxist, feminist - into which one could fit the film ("film" not "movie" by the way), and the deeply racist undercurrents throughout, what with all those evil black hyenas.

Two black fortysomethings sitting in front of me, who don't appear to be together, exchange deeply amused glances.

that is so, so routledge. i'm the only asian in a room full of white kids telling me how horrible it was they didn't hire more asians. which is why i quit!
