I've read the book, so I know the basic ideas. I don't like disturbingly violent or gory images though. Is it good enough to be worth seeing? Or should I avoid it - too violent?

It's not that it's violent or gory (although it is). It's just relentlessly pessimistic and sad.

Yeah, reading the book is like taking your soul for a long bath in cold, greasy mud.

It is an absolutely beautiful movie.
It has one of the most stunning, uncut, single shot action sequences ever filmed.

I definitely recommend checking it out.

Not especially violent, in terms of blood, gore, and pain. Lots of bullets. There's a good bit of it that you could find disturbing along those lines, but based on the intentional parallels to prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib and urban combat in Gaza. If you could get through the book V for Vendetta, you'll be fine.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] latemodel: not violent, just disturbing. But so so good. With the caveat that I'm not particularly critical of movies, I really did love it, thought it was visually beautiful, and something you should definitely see.

Tough call--I would put it at somewhat less violent than say the Matrix, but it does contain several disturbing moments. I would say though that none of it struck me as gratuitous, and people were sometimes shocked by their own actions.

I thought it was a very good movie--not perfect, but I thought it took the ideas from the book and created a better story. It's stuck with me.

It is really intense and made me pretty unhappy for a while.

I hear it's very different from the book, by the way.

Less violent than the opening to "Saving Private Ryan" but disturbing in the same way just pumped up an order of magnitude.

I also, based on skimming the book, believe in the ending they are very different.
