I've got the Amazon rewards card - takes less $$ to get rewards ($25 gift certs) than my airline miles one ($2500 vs $8000), and the rate is about the same. Rewards seem to work out to about 1% of purchases, more if you spend a lot on Amazon (where you get 3 points/dollar instead of the 1 for every other purchase).

It is the best card ever! And I even have a good interest rate (10.9%). Yay.

Do you get mailings from any airline clubs? I keep getting stuff for a United Visa that gives 20,000 miles for signing up, 1 mile/$1, double miles for flights purchased with the card for a promo period, some upgrade certificates, and no fee for the first year... but I get similar things from Delta, British Air, American, US Air, etc. all the time. I think if you have miles anywhere you can call them up to ask about their credit card involvement.

I have an AMEX card, a carryover from my working days. It kinda sucks paying a fee for the card and the membership rewards, but they have tons of stuff on offer and airline/hotel agreements all over the place (and since you don't pay interest on charges paid off the first month, I probably save some money there). Since I'm not paying for as much stuff now (not blowing $10,000+ on an expense account 4 times a year!), I'll probably switch eventually. Once I'm working again, that is :)
