"I'm a revolutionary Socialist... I'm a corporate shill... No wait, I'm keping it real I swear! I'm just abusing the system to bring it down from the inside!"
well, to be fair, she's been big in the UK for a few years now, so it took her more than 15 seconds ;-) Plus, I think it's just a natural part of a UK dj/dance band/electronica band's career to be used for car commercials.
I did rather wonder though if the car company was aware of what the song is about. If they just wanted the song because it was a hit, then if I were MIA I would have thought it would serve them right to use a drug song to sell their cars and told them to go on and use it...
she's been working on music for years and years, according to a friend of mine who knew her years ago. (MIA lived with justine from elastica when they were big in the '90s and justine was always putting her music down and stuff... now look who's on smack, but i digress.)
when you hear a band in a car commercial, sometimes it means the artist got a deal with a publishing company, got a big chunk of dough, and then the publishing company sells the songs to like, saturn. the way i see it, it's next to impossible to make a living in music these days. i've never made a dime off music so far and we're "signed" and whatever. and i'd rather be making money off my songs than in some terrible office job, where i've REALLY sold out.
and really, the revolutionary socialist tamil tigers thing is such BS!
