Has anyone gone to the Caribbean in July? Early or mid-July? Supposedly, it's the beginning of the rainy season, but the real rain is mostly later in the summer.

Except - according to the internet's collective wisdom, half the people say July is no problem, when it does rain it's just a brief shower ... and half say don't take the chance because it might be miserable. Hmm.

I have. Freaking beautiful. The showers take an hour or two. The British Virgins, where I went, are arid, and have a lot of desert flora. I'm not too familiar with other areas.

The worst I remember was when I was on a sailing trip, trapped inside for the hour or two with a bunch of people I didn't like. But if you're on land, inside, with a book or a nap, all is well.

We were in Key West in early August. It rained enough to be noticable, but didn't really bother us - we were either inside (huh huh) or diving ... and the water doesn't care what's going on on the surface.

Plus - outside showers are the best idea evar. That's apropos of nothing, I know, but still. They rock.

i went to aruba in june. it got cloudy a couple of days and it spit a couple of drops of rain for all of 30 secs. the rest of the days were wonderful and sunny. mind you, aruba is a desert island so it really wouldn't be getting much in rain anyways. also something you might want to consider is hurricane season. i'd suggest going to an island in the caribbean (eg aruba or the other two islands next to it that i can never remember the name of) that is out of the hurricane belt.

Yeah, it probably depends on where you're going. But, actually, I don't remember much rain when I was in the Caribbean one August (Curacao, Aruba, St Maarten, Haiti, the DR, Jamaica).

We're going to Costa Rica during the rainy season. I heard most of the rain was during the late afternoon/evening. I also remember that Southeast Asia during the rainy season was wonderful, with showers breaking the heat and mostly falling at night.

I've been in Jamaica in Apr/May, the midafternoon showers were the ideal time to nap. :) They just slowed us down to island time, rather than ruining the trip.
