Nov. 9th, 2004 10:40 pmAll this nasty red state vs. blue state stuff ... I don't get it. It just doesn't even make any sense .. the states are nearly all split roughly down the middle, just like the country itself. If you must be hostile and angry, be hostile and angry directly at the population whose votes you don't like, not at regions that are just as heterogeneous as your own.

Date: 2004-11-09 08:11 pm (UTC)for me, though, my regretted nastiness with the red states is not so much about politics and behavior in the voting booth as about culture, (rigid) regional societal norms, and personal experience. encapsulated in the queer/minority bashing i witness every day, and the fact that
in any case, though, i really am trying to get past it-- because it really does lead nowhere.

Date: 2004-11-10 07:50 pm (UTC)Try living in Texas, one of the few places with big swaths of red, even on the purple county-by-county map (http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/JAVA/election2004/). I suppose I have the consolation of noting that our neighbor, Oklahoma, was "more red". It's a very small consolation, considering the gross gerrymandering of our state and national representative districts.
