because la has a club for everything. absolutely everything. and most of them aren't half as cool as they look. but that is just me being a bastard because i hate la. if you don't mind the cliquishnesses and the anti-intellectual attitude it can be just peachy.
There's random cocktail-themed nights here and there. But they get boring after a while, despite intellectual theatrical and playful intentions. Troupes like the Burlesque Revival Association are still in service.
Actually, the BRA just moved to LA. There is another Burlesque Troupe wandering about recently though.
And of course I and labellemargaux have had a major influence on the Burlesque/Noir/Cabaret/Vaudeville/Roaring/Swing side of Friday nights at The Ray of Man and through our own parties over the last few years. But such club nights are still under attended, and few and far between.
I don't like cocktail-themed in general though .. no fifties, bleah. jazz age is much more appealing .. it seems to be getting trendier too. I don't know if that's good or bad.
Trendy's okay. Trendy just means that it won't be trendy in a decade. And hey, the cocktail-themed parties I've been to were 20s-30s. I like the 20s because the costumes don't have to be tailored and you can break out feathers instead of flowers.
