I didn't go to see Skinny Puppy last night and I don't even care. This troubles me a little bit.

You know what... I'm actually right there with you. I have a ticket to see them in Philly on Wednesday night, but I'm not all that excited about it. I just have a wierd sort of compulsion to go :P

It could easily have been missed. It wasn't at all like seeing kraftwerk, where they were just like OMG WE STILL ROOL and you were like, OKOK STOP U WIN

did you see kraftwerk in montreal?

i think having seen them, and how much ass they kicked while pretty much remaining exactly the same, sort of made seeing skinny puppy even worse...i guess because in some stupid way i don't want to see the evolution of SP because i liked them how they were..

no, nyc in 199..8?

We had a defmatch the night they were in montreal so I couldn't go.

SP didn't really evolve, thank god, but in some respects they didn't improve, either, and that was as depressing.

my boyfriend ethan went to the ny show in 199whatever, and he said the two shows were pretty much identical, with the montreal show adding a few new songs (electrocardiogram and vitamin) so you didn't really miss too much

i think evolve might be the wrong word, but i think that "the greater wrong for the right" is to some degree a departure from their earlier stuff in that it seems much thinner and cleaner sound-wise..very digital for lack of a better word(granted, i haven't heard the process in years and years, so this might not be that off)

i just thought parts of the show were really hokey (like the gw=hilter stuff) and in general really had an air of professionalism that i wasn't expecting (in terms of the cgi stuff going on the background). it really made me wish i had seen them earlier on..but i was all of 14 when they last went on tour , and couldn't go :/

Are you dating ethan / iostream? I did not know that. Was that you walking out of the show with him? I don't think we've met in person... I handed him a flyer and such and said hello tho.

I haven't heard 'greater wrong' yet but what I heard at the show was iffy at best... but exactly what I expected outta the SP crew after crap like ohgr.

I -hated- the gw/hitler stuff. That was soooo weak... like we really needed skinny puppy to tell us not to vote for bush... it was the sort of video I'd expect out of a garage industrial band playing some dive, not skinny puppy.

yup! he also has a livejournal [livejournal.com profile] plankton which is neat if you're interested in any of the music stuff he's been up to.

it's interesting...when i first heard it i absolutely hated it, because it's really way more of an oghr album than a skinny puppy one, but i listened to it again after the show, and i dislike it less now that i've sort of changed my expectations. if you want, i can burn you a copy and bring it to defmatch, as it's something i'd suggest hearing before buying..

i was waiting for them to include captions during the footage of rumsfeld meeting hussien, just to drive the point home further. plus i felt like any sort of weight it might've carried was sort of lost when it was followed up with the montage of images that looked like they were ripped off of rotten.com or whatever...it seemed like a poor juxtaposition of "the govt is bad because we are killing iraqis/afghani's" to "dead things are kind of neat" plus, i guess i'd rather see something more along the lines of emergency broadcast network or warp's bushwacked series, when it comes to politicized music video...

I'm glad that there is at least one other person besides me and ethan who thought that was hokey. we went to a party after the show and i asked some people what they thought, and alot of people were all "right on!" about the gw/hitler/new presidential seal stuff.

What was that lj again?

If you could burn a copy, that'd be great. I try and spin breaksy-industrial now and then at dm, and I noticed one or two of the new tracks could work.

I couldn't help but think the video was a ripoff of EBN's seminal "We Will Rock You"... Funny you mention that. My girlfriend ([livejournal.com profile] dieselgrrl felt the same, as did a few of my friends. As much as I dislike bush, comparing him to a nazi, or even that stupid presidential seal with dripping gas pumps over skulls... that was just flat out unnecessary. Even if you felt that way, it's just immature to be that overtly political. Moreso for a band that should know better, and most definitely could -do- better.

Tho, SP -did- used to promote for PETA. ;)

empTe and pastpresent might be fun to dance to. i also like Goneja because it sounds like they were emulating the speak it voice program with some of the effects on ogres voice and it's kind of glitchy, but that song credits it's "sound design" to otto von schirach, which might be why i like it, since he's apparently very abstract and glitchy. (the song titles, as evidenced by empTe and goneja are also really goofy)

oh i totally wanted to find my ebn videotape, but i'm afraid it's old enough it will snap if i try to play it...i'd be interested to see what they could/would do now, especially after seeing the mess @ SP.

totally. it felt very juvenille. i was standing in the back and watching everyone flipping off the images of GW landing on the aircraft carrier and all i could think was "way to be subversive kids"

i mean, even if they had been creative with it or something, instead it just felt like something the pissed off, self-proclaimed anarchist kid who sits in the back of every high school video class would've put together.

so does pamela anderson. maybe she can join forces with skinny puppy...
