The "Words People Hate" discussion is going around a couple of blog sites, like this one which I don't often read and also Critical Mass which I do. Hey [livejournal.com profile] pyrric, your favorite word has already come up as one of the hated.

Ah, sweet, sweet vindication.

I vote for "catch 22."

It seems like every oh-so-sophisticated yuppie has some compulsion to drop this one at a rate of at least once per hour.

I actually get angry at the word "product" when used by business school graduates (or professors) to describe what their company manufactures or offers (as in "investment products"--double the hate for using "product" to describe a service). As a TA this rant was included in my lecture for the "BASIC Programming for Business Majors" sections. (While putting more people on a manufacturing job might move up a completion date, with software it just guarantees a longer delay. The generic "product" paradigm fails again.)
