This one's making me hungry ..

What's the last thing you ate? A double chocolate milano cookie.
What's your favorite cheese? Manchego. Also love Boursin.
What's your favorite fish? Porgies, though [livejournal.com profile] canongrrl's tilapia is making that a tough choice.
What's your favorite fruit? Nectarines.
When, if ever, did you start liking olives? I think I always have, except the black ones that are in oil. Too greasy.
When, if ever, did you start liking beer? In 1996, when I moved to Boston and had my first non-crap beer.
When, if ever, did you start liking shellfish? Never. Allergies.
What was the best thing your mum/dad/guardian used to make? So many things ... my mom was amazing with baked stuff, main courses, everything. Chocolate mousse cake, malnatorte (don't know if that's spelled right), spinach-herb sausages, moussaka, spiced beef, duck, all kinds of breads, baumkuchen (which I have to learn to make), soupe au pistou ... now I'm both hungry and guilty because I rarely/never cook these things myself. Oh, and my dad used to make really good Indian food.
What's the native specialty of your home town? Pork & sauerkraut, scrapple, cheesesteaks (sort of), soft pretzels, Tastykakes!
What's your comfort food? Hmm. Probably spaghetti and basic tomato sauce. Nothing is more comforting in cold weather than the smell of tomato sauce simmering. Grilled cheese sandwiches, too.
What's your favorite type of chocolate? For plain chocolate I like Valrhona super-concentrated stuff, in very small quantities. For filled things I like Lindt and Godiva, especially the raspberry bars.
How do you like your steak? Medium. Rare is gross.
How do you like your burger? Medium.
How do you like your eggs? Since my first trip to England, I like then over-easy with toast and bacon. Scrambled or in an omelette is also good.
How do you like your potatoes? Almost any way. If mashed, only with garlic. No skin. I miss the "Good morning potatoes!" from college.
How do you take your coffee? Lots of milk (whole), little sugar.
How do you take your tea? Depends on the type. Earl Grey with just a little sugar; same with herb teas. Prince of Wales or Irish Breakfast with sugar and milk.
What's your favorite mug? None really.
What's your biscuit or cookie of choice? Double chocolate milanos? Homemade hocolate chip? I like lots of them.
What's your ideal breakfast? Bacon (very well done), eggs (over easy), toast, hash browns, french toast (just a little bit of each of these would be ideal).
What's your ideal sandwich? The Italian sandwiches from the farmer's market near my parents' house.
What's your ideal pizza? Cheese Sicilian from a place that used to be in Valley Forge, PA.
What's your ideal pie? pumpkin or cherry.
What's your ideal salad? Giant salad from Intermezzo in Berkeley (or probably any salad made with CA produce, but I haven't sampled that many).
What food do you always like to have in the fridge? Apples, milk, monterey jack cheese.
What food do you always like to have in the freezer? Boca fake chicken patties.
What food do you always like to have in the cupboard? Wheat chex for quick breakfast, canned Italian tomatoes for sauce.
What spices can you not live without? Garlic, basil (fresh - not really spiced I guess)
What sauces can you not live without? Lots of basic tomato sauces.
Where do you buy most of your food? Wild Oats, but sometimes we order with Peapod.
How often do you go food shopping? Every few weeks, but I stop and get fresh bread more frequently.
What's the most you've spent on a single food item? I bought a large pile of organic ground lamb that was pretty expensive ..
What's the most expensive piece of kitchen equipment you own (excluding 'white goods')? A kitchen cart. Second would probably be a fancy pot of some kind.
What's the last piece of equipment you bought for your kitchen? An Ikea tea-ball.
What piece of kitchen equipment could you not live without? Oh, my huge blue glass mixing bowl.
How many times a week/month do you cook from raw ingredients? Less than I should, though I've baked a lot lately. Now that our kitchen's fully set up, we'll do it more.
What's the last thing you cooked from raw ingredients? Pumpkin cookies with brown sugar glaze.
What's your fast food restaurant of choice, and what do you usually order? I like super-greasy Pizza Hut pan pizza, but now we don't have a local one anymore. I really like the occasional McDonald's cheeseburger & fries (hey, even Julia Child likes McDonald's) or a Whopper Jr with cheese from Burger King.
Pick a city. What are the best dining experiences you had in that city? Philadelphia — Le Bec-Fin under its old, original management in .. I think 1995. Full multi-course dinner, by far the best single meal I have ever had. I've had a lot of 3am cheese omelettes in greasy diners in Philadelphia that were also pretty great though.
