We saw the third matrix movie last night .. not nearly as bad as I'd feared from what everyone said. I thought it was better than the second one - less talking, more fighting. They should just avoid the limping attempts at philosophy and stick with the ass-kicking. But there was too much reliance on strobe effects during the fight scenes. Still, I was glad they didn't use any of the hackneyed sci-fi endings that they might have gone with. I really thought it would be "oh no, even Zion is another layer of the matrix! *gasp*"

Anyway, it was enjoyable enough. I guess we weren't expecting much so we were pleasantly surprised.

Still haven't decided if I want to go to Skinny Puppy. I'm assuming it's not sold out yet .. I think I might want to hang onto my memory of seeing them last time (well, the only time I saw them) instead of replacing it with something newer and less good.

less talking, more fighting.

It's moments like this that reinforce the fact that you're the best girlfriend ever.

Hooray, more (almost) fans of the movie!

I think I will make a decision about the concert once I hear the new album.

i hated it so much
i hated it because you needed to play the game to understand what happened to the oracle. i hated it because of all the christ imagery surrounding neo. UGHHHHH

One thing that we didn't like was that there was SO MUCH you were expected to remember from the second movie! I've not played the game or seen all the cut scenes so I'm not sure what you mean by "what happened to the Oracle", I thought the actress died so (deus ex machina) you get a new one.

Christ imagery is so overused that I've gotten pretty indifferent to it.

I didn't feel like I needed to understand what happened to the oracle any more than I did (and I didn't play the game, I just heard she was replaced by a new actress b/c she died). And the Christ imagery .. well, you knew that was coming pretty much.

They definitely did assume you had just rented the previous movie before seeing the third one. They assumed you remembered exactly what was going on and where each ship was, where the drills were, etc.

I liked the machine face made of squiddies.

the oracle got hacked by the mervingian, which is why they got a new actress. they dedicated a 14 minute cut scene to it in the game that explains things alot better than i can...i just thought that was annoying, because it was more interesting tham 90% of the movie.

But, Dude(tte), Dragonball-Z style fighting.
That's not real fighting - it's dickwaving power-punch poses.

The one good thing I took away from the last 2 Matrix films was that the Creator fucked up - he honestly thought Neo would make a rational decision, and go with the 'saving humanity' thing over Trinity. But Neo was too stupid, and went with Trinity... Heh.

I thought the Fighting was alright.
I mean it was two beings of god-like power bashing it out... how else would you show it?

Couldn't they have settled it with a nice game of chess in a well-lit bar, over drinks?

that's the point of him being the demiurge who thinks he's the creator :). the demiurge doesn't realize he's not perfect.

the christ imagery in general, or its overuse in the third movie? on the one hand, the christian symbolism was part of the point (Neo as the "One," Thomas Anderson, aka Thomas "Son of Man," etc.), but I thought in the final movie they veered away from the gnostic bent somewhat and went for a more exoteric Christian mythology. Which was too bad -- I liked the gnostic (and Buddhist) references.
